? EPL Roundup: Everton stun Chelsea, Tottenham stroll to easy win against Leicester

Everton took a huge step towards Premier League survival with a hard-fought but deserved 1-0 win over Chelsea in a clash staged at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Toffees found themselves in the bottom three last week after a 2-0 away loss against Merseyside rivals Liverpool but picked themselves up when it mattered most to collect maximum points that could prove massive in the relegation battle. 

Richarlison got the Toffees’ goal two minutes into the second half, after the Chelsea defense, led by captain Cezar Azplicueta, were caught on the ball. 

The win saw Frank Lampard’s side take their tally to 32 points, but could dig themselves out of the red zone if they win their match at hand. 

The clash got off to a lightning start, with Everton getting a free-kick on the edge of Chelsea’s box after just 15 seconds when Ruben Loftus-Cheek committed a deliberate foul. 

Chelsea then controlled much of the possession from that point onwards, with Everton sitting deep and limiting them to a handful of half-chances. 

Despite their possession, Chelsea did not have a single shot on target, with the match remaining scoreless at the interval. 

Two minutes into the second half, Everton struck first when Azpilicueta lost possession, allowing Richarlison to pick up the ball before slotting it into the back of the net to make it 1:0.

Three minutes later, Vitali Mykolenko lost a glorious opportunity to make it 2-0 for the hosts when he was played clear, but his effort went awfully wide with the goal at his mercy. 

Chelsea could have leveled on the hour mark, but world-class goalkeeping and the post came to the Toffees’ rescue. 

First, Mason Mount was set up by Kai Havertz, but his shot cannoned off the post, before Jordan Pickford ran back across goal to stop a goal-bound Azpilicueta shot. 

Two minutes later, Pickford was once again called into action, this time denying Antonio Rudiger from close range. 

Both teams had chances to find the back of the net late on, but Pickford, in particular, stopped the Blues from leveling including a late chance, denying Mateo Kovavic. 

In another match, Tottenham boosted their hopes of playing Champions League football with a comfortable 3-1 win over Leicester. 

Harry Kane opened the scores for Spurs midway through the first half before Son Heung-min scored a brace in the second half to ensure they moved above Arsenal on the log.
