Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has surpassed fellow Bayern star Oliver Kahn’s previous record for most victories in the Bundesliga.
Neuer started in goal for his 311th Bundesliga win as Bayern cruised to a 4-0 victory against Union Berlin on Saturday at the Allianz Arena.
To date, the 35-year-old has appeared in 460 Bundesliga matches in Germany, including 156 for previous club Schalke. This results in an astounding 68 percent win percentage across all Bundesliga matches.
Kahn’s record has held since 2008, when he announced his retirement from Bayern Munich. Although Hans-Jorg Butt originally received the gloves, Neuer was effectively Kahn’s long-term replacement upon his arrival in Munich in 2011 after helping Schalke to the Champions League semi-finals.
Neuer is on track to win his ninth Bundesliga championship this season, having previously missed out in his debut season with the club in 2011/12.
He has also won 17 more domestic and continental titles throughout his tenure at the club, including two Champions League wins, as well as a World Cup with Germany in 2014 and a third-place finish in the 2014 Ballon d’Or.
