2023 AFCONQ: Alex Iwobi apologizes to Nigerians, assures of quick response in Bissau

Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi has called for renewed support from Nigerians following a disappointing 1-0 loss to Guinea-Bissau in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers on Friday.
Mama Balde scored the only goal of the match in the 29th minute as the Wild Dogs held on to the slim lead amid pouring attacks from the Super Eagles to earn a history victory.
The defeat saw Nigeria losing four consecutive games for the first time in over six decades which has brought about continued criticism from soccer loving Nigerians.
Iwobi who lasted the duration of the match expressed disappointment, urging Nigerians to remain faithful in the team, while assuring of victory the reverse fixture in Bissau.
“First of all, we need to look at the game again and see how we fared and see how we can respond quickly to get back to winning ways,” the Everton midfielder told media.
“We played very well today but luck ran against us, we created many chances, I believe if we play them again we could be lucky to win them.
“I will want Nigerians to continue stick with us, support and keep believing in us because I’m confident in the team that we are going to bounce back, soon.”
Nigeria will be hoping for quick response against the Wild Dogs when they meet on Monday in the reverse fixture in Bissau.
