By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Beyond Limits Academy stunned Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Remo Stars 3-2 in the quarter-final of the 2023 Ogun State Federation Cup at Ebedei Stadium, Sagamu, ending the dreams of the top-flight side.
Both clubs founded by the same owner, Kunle Soname, Remo Stars opened the scoring from a set piece in the 13th minute when Stanley Okorom crossed to the near post from a freekick to Haruna Hadi who flicked the ball home.
Two minutes later, Beyond Limits equalised from the penalty spot thanks to Shola Ogundana but Samuel Anakwe drilled home a cutback into the net to restore Remo Stars’ lead in the 55th minute.
Remo’s dominance was cut short by unsportsmanlike acts from Emmanuel and Dayo Ojo who were both sent off for second bookable offences by referee Showunmi Matthew, gifting Beyond Limits’ the numerical advantage.
Farouk Ogundare equalised for Beyond Limits from Ogundana’s missed penalty rebound.
Substitute, Adnan Kabiru converted the winning goal for Beyond Limits in the 70th minute as the TCC League Champions hold on to cause a major upset at the 2023 Ogun State Federation Cup.
Following their giantkilling feat, Beyond have been rewarded with a semi-final clash with MKA FC.
On the other hand, MKA FC shocked Nigeria National League (NNL) side, Stormers FC 3-1 on penalties after regulation time ended in a 3-3 draw.
At the Ikenne centre, holders, Ijebu United FC pipped Ottasolo FC 1-0 courtesy of Sunday Emmanuel’s second-half strike.
The Ijebu Ode-based side will meet Gateway United FC in the semi-final after the latter defeated Imperial FC 4-1 on penalties.
