Rivers Angels pipped Nasarawa Amazons 2-1 in the semi-final of the 2023 Women’s Federation Cup on Friday.
Two goals from Chiamaka Okwuchukwu ensured a place in the final of this year’s national championship for Edwin Okon’s side at Akure Township Stadium, Ondo State.
Okwuchukwu scored the first goal of the encounter in the second minute of action to put the Jewel of Rivers in front.
However, the Solid Miners eventually found a response in 24th minute when Dooshima Tarnum netted the equalizer and almost gave her side the lead when her effort hit the crossbar.
After a score draw at the break, Okon’s ladies put up an improved display in the second half and Okwuchukwu found the back of the net with her second of the match in the 65th minute to guarantee Rivers’ triumph.
In Akwa, Bayelsa Queens edged Edo Queens 1-0 to set up a tasty date with Rivers Angels in the final.
Chinyere Igboamalu’s 27th-minute goal settled the contest despite a late protest by Edo Queens players for a disallowed goal at the Akwa Township Stadium.

Meanwhile, Rivers Angels will face Bayelsa Queens in the final of the 2023 Federation Cup.

Both finalists are in contention to win a double after qualifying for the season-ending Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six which will hold in Asaba, Delta State next month.
Bayelsa Queens won the last edition of the Federation Cup in 2021 alongside its men’s counterpart, Bayelsa United.
