2024 President Federation Cup: Abia and El-Kanemi Warriors set up final date in Abuja

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The first-ever President Federation Cup final at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, will see Abia Warriors from Abia State face off against El-Kanemi Warriors from Borno State.

In a tense semi-final clash at the Lafia City Stadium, Abia Warriors and Kano Pillars could not be separated after 90 minutes, leading to a dramatic penalty shootout.

Abia Warriors emerged victorious with a 4-3 win on penalties, securing their spot in the final scheduled for next week Saturday.

The second semi-final, held at the NFF/FIFA Goal Project in Abuja, also concluded with a penalty shootout after a goalless draw between El-Kanemi Warriors and Kebbi United.

El-Kanemi Warriors converted all their five penalties, while Kebbi United missed their second kick, allowing El-Kanemi Warriors to advance to the final at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos on June 29th.

The winner of this final match will earn the opportunity to represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup next season, alongside the third-placed team from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

On the women’s side, the competition is in the semi-final stage. Remo Stars Ladies are set to face Naija Ratels FC, while Delta Queens will go up against Rivers Angels in the other semi-final match.

The excitement is building as teams gear up for the decisive matches, with a chance to make history and achieve continental recognition.
