2025 AFCON Qualifier: Dimeji Lawal urges Super Eagles to crush Libya with discipline

Former Nigeria international, Dimeji Lawal, has urged the Super Eagles to focus on securing a victory against Libya when they face off in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in Uyo.
The Super Eagles will meet the North Africans in a crucial double-header, with the first leg scheduled for Friday, October 11, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, while the return leg will be held in Benghazi on October 15.
Lawal emphasized that Nigeria should not underestimate Libya, stressing the importance of a disciplined approach to the game, while warning that giving the Mediterranean Knights space, particularly in dangerous areas, could lead to problems for the Super Eagles.
“This is a game the Super Eagles must approach with the seriousness of a cup final in order to secure the three points,” Lawal told Complete Sports. “Libya are a very strong team, and we must not give them any room to operate, especially in our 18-yard box.”
He also expressed optimism about the Super Eagles’ chances of picking up the maximum points, citing the positive momentum within the squad. “I am confident the Super Eagles will secure the three points, especially with the new-found spirit in the team,” he added.
Nigeria tops Group D of the AFCON qualifiers with four points from two games, while Libya sits at the bottom with just one point. With the team in good form, Lawal believes the Super Eagles are well-positioned to extend their lead in the group, but only if they maintain focus and discipline throughout the match.
