Nigeria winger Moses Simon has expressed confidence that the Super Eagles will triumph over Libya in the return leg, despite anticipating possible negative tactics from their hosts.

In a tense 2025 AFCON Qualifier in Uyo, Nigeria secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Mediterranean Knights, thanks to a stunning 86th-minute strike by Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.

Now, with the second leg looming in Benghazi, Simon has insisted that the Eagles will not be swayed by any hostile or unsporting behavior from the Libyans and will instead focus on securing another win.

Simon acknowledged that while Libya may employ negative tactics, Nigeria is mentally prepared for the challenge, stressing that the team is fully focused on the task ahead and determined to leave no room for complacency.

“We know what to expect from them in Libya. They will likely try to disrupt the game with negative tactics and hostility,” Simon speaking to the press in Uyo.

“But we are not concerned about that. We are mentally prepared, and we will go there with a clear focus on winning.”

The winger highlighted that the team is aware of the challenges they face, but they are prepared for any scenario, including the tough environment and the pressure of an away game.

“The first leg was a tough match, and we knew it would be difficult. But we got the win, and now we’re focused on getting another victory,” Simon continued. “There are no easy games anymore, and Libya won’t be any different. We’re ready for the fight.”

With the Super Eagles primed for their trip to Benghazi, Simon’s statement reflects a team that is determined to rise above adversity and secure their place in the 2025 AFCON.

The focus, he assured, will be on playing their own game and taking control of the match, regardless of the host’s tactics.

“We’ll stay calm, stay focused, and play our game. The result in Libya will be in our favour, Simon concluded.”
