2025 AFCONQ: Eguavoen targets three points against Rwanda as Eagles land in Kigali

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen is set on securing a win for Nigeria’s senior men’s national team against Rwanda in their second group match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers.

The match is scheduled to take place at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali on Tuesday.

The Super Eagles are currently leading their group after a commanding 3-0 victory over Benin Republic in Uyo on Saturday. In contrast, Rwanda and Libya played to a 1-1 draw in their earlier encounter.

Ahead of the clash, Eguavoen expressed confidence and focus, emphasizing the importance of collecting all three points.

“We have the right mentality now, and the mood in camp is excellent,” Eguavoen said.

“Everyone is eager for us to secure the three points in Rwanda and maintain our top position in the qualifying table. We are here for business, and I am pleased that the team is united in this goal.”

Eguavoen also noted the timely arrival of the Nigerian delegation, which includes 23 players, coaching staff, and various officials.

“I am also happy that we have arrived here in good time, allowing the players to rest and prepare for the official training on Monday afternoon,” he added.

The Nigerian delegation, led by the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, his vice Felix Anyasi-Agwu, Secretary General Mohammed Sanusi, and other NFF executives, departed Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo on Sunday. They arrived at Kigali Airport the same day, ready for Tuesday’s crucial encounter.
