Nigeria midfielder, Jennifer Onyi Echegini has won the 2023 Women’s MAC Hermann Trophy after an illustrious season with her former team, Florida States University (FSU).
The Netherlands-born player beat BYU’s Brecken Mozingo and Nebraska’s Eleanor Dale to the coveted title.
The best player in the United States of America (USA) College Soccer in 2023 wrapped up the year in an emphatic fashion and started the year completing a switch to Italian giants, Juventus.
“I am speechless. This award is so prestigious. I am so happy and honoured to be here,” Echegini stated while reacting to winning the prize.
“I wouldn’t have imagined this if you told me this before I came to the US. Looking back, I am just proud of myself. Shout out to everybody who believed in me and supported me. Coaches, teammates, family, and friends.
“Thank you so much to the Missouri Athletic Club for making this happen. I love you guys.” She concluded.
She was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the ACC Tournament, “ACC Offensive Player of the Year” and named to the “United Soccer Coaches First Team All-American”.
In 2023, she scored 16 goals, the eighth-best result ever in the history of her university, and was the first among the ranks of the Florida State Seminoles to reach double figures in goals for multiple seasons in a row since Deyna Castellanos.
Her next adventure is with Juventus as she hopes to help the Old Ladies reclaim the Italian league title and make a return to the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) next season.
