Rasheedat Ajibade bags fourth assists to help Atletico Madrid end winless run

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigerian forward Rasheedat Ajibade played a crucial role in Atletico Madrid’s 1-0 victory over Huelva in the Spanish top-flight on Sunday.

Ajibade, formerly of Avaldnes, provided the assist for Gabriela Garcia’s winning goal in the 48th minute of the match.

The win was a much-needed boost for Atletico Madrid, who had not won any of their previous four matches in all competitions before this encounter.

With this victory, the capital club continued their pursuit of qualification for the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL).

Ajibade has been instrumental for Atletico Madrid this season, contributing four goals and four assists in the league across 19 games.

Following the win, Atletico Madrid maintained their fifth position in the league table with 35 points from 19 games, holding a five-point lead over Sevilla.

They are currently just one point behind fourth-placed Madrid CFF and three points adrift of third-placed Levante, who occupy the last Champions League qualification spot.

Ajibade and her teammates will be looking to build on this victory when they face Real Sociedad in their next league encounter on March 13, 2024.
