Federation Cup: Abia Warriors skipper unperturbed with Kwara United threat

By Saheed Afolabi
Abia Warriors captain, Augustine Njoku, remains unfazed by the potential threat posed by Kwara United as they prepare for their Federation Cup clash.
The wingback expressed confidence in his team’s abilities, especially after progressing through the earlier rounds against lower-division teams. He acknowledged the significance of facing another Premier League side but emphasized that his team is ready for the challenge.
Njoku dismissed concerns about former Abia Warriors players now with Kwara United, stating that football dynamics often lead to such reunions, stressinh that the upcoming match will not be a friendly encounter despite the familiarity.
“Since the FA Cup (President Federation Cup) started, we’ve been playing against lower division teams, and now is the time to play against a fellow Premier League side,” Njoku told Abia Warriors.
“It’s going to be a very big game for us, and I believe we’ll come out victorious and proceed to the quarter-finals. It’s a good one equally, I can say that’s part of football.
“In football, your teammate today can equally be your opponent tomorrow, that’s how football is. And it’s a good one. It’s going to be a kind of reunion between us and them because they left in the mid-season of this current season to join Kwara United and since then we’ve not seen ourselves.
“I know they will give some information about our team to their new employers, but I believe our team has improved much more than when they left. So, it’s going to be a reunion between us and them, and it will be great to see them again.”
Abia Warriors are set to clash with Kwara United at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Wednesday, May 29, in the Federation Cup game.
