Ebenezer Harcourt: Teenage goalkeeper makes history as CHAN Eagles bow out

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria ended their 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) campaign on a high with a 2-0 victory over Congo on Tuesday, thanks to goals from Anas Yusuf and Sikiru Alimi.

But the night belonged to 15-year-old goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt, who wrote his name into the history books.

He became the youngest-ever Super Eagles player.

Harcourt, who plays for Sporting Lagos, also became the youngest goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet in CHAN history and the youngest player to ever feature in the competition.

Despite Nigeria’s early exit, Harcourt’s performance was hailed as a breakthrough moment for the country’s youth football.

His calm display between the posts capped off a historic debut, signaling a bright future for the teenage shot-stopper.
