Super Eagles drop to 45th in FIFA World Ranking, lowest in six years

The Nigeria’s senior men’s national team have slipped to 45th place in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings.
The ranking is their lowest position in more than six years, according to figures released Thursday by world football’s governing body.
Despite remaining unbeaten in recent fixtures, Nigeria’s ranking points fell short of sustaining their previous spot.
On the continental table, the Super Eagles now sit sixth in Africa, behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Côte d’Ivoire.
The drop underscores the fierce competition within African football and the critical importance of winning high-value matches, particularly in World Cup qualifiers, to boost ranking points.
Nigeria’s seeding in future tournaments could be negatively affected, potentially pitting the team against tougher opponents in qualification campaigns.
To correct this, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) need to intensify preparations for upcoming qualifiers with consistency, competitive match scheduling, and squad stability crucial to reversing the downward trend.
