By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria’s U-17 national team made a flying start to their campaign at the 2025 WAFU-B U-17 Championship, cruising to a 4-1 victory over Benin Republic on Wednesday.

The Golden Eaglets were dominant in the first half, with George Agah netting a brilliant hat-trick to put the five-time world champions in control.

David Edeh added another to complete Nigeria’s tally before the break.

Benin Republic managed a consolation through Jeremy Zannou late in the first half, but they could not mount a comeback after the restart as all five goals came in the opening 45 minutes.

Nigeria will next face Burkina Faso in their final group game, a fixture that will decide the two semifinalists from the group.

The competition doubles as the qualifiers for the 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
