“He’s got a big pedigree” – Celtic captain McGregor lauds Iheanacho’s impact

Celtic captain Callum McGregor has heaped praise on new signing Kelechi Iheanacho, hailing the Nigerian striker’s pedigree and early impact since joining the Scottish champions.
Iheanacho arrived at Celtic Park shortly after the close of the summer transfer window and has already begun to justify the club’s faith in him with a string of strong performances.
Speaking to the media, McGregor noted the immediate impression the 27-year-old has made on the squad and highlighted the quality he brings to the Hoops’ attack.
“I think the first time I saw him, you know, you can just tell by the way someone hits the ball—you think, ‘Right, he can play,’” McGregor said.
“He’s got a big pedigree. He’s played at big clubs and obviously played under the manager at Leicester as well. You can see he’s a good player.”
The Nigerian international, who had been short on game time prior to the move, has quickly found his rhythm at Celtic. McGregor emphasized that while Iheanacho is still building full match fitness, his attitude and professionalism have been outstanding.
“The reason we’ve got him is probably because he’s lacking a bit of game time and just needs to get up to speed,” McGregor added.
“The good thing is, he’s come in and his attitude’s been amazing.”
The Celtic skipper also praised the club’s recruitment strategy in securing a player of Iheanacho’s calibre without a high transfer fee.
“Good business comes in many forms. You don’t always need to pay big money for good players—it’s about getting them at the right time and getting them hungry. There are so many factors involved when you sign players. You need them at the right moment.”
Iheanacho has already contributed goals against Kilmarnock and Crvena Zvezda, while also notching an assist in the away win at Partick Thistle. His early performances have boosted Celtic’s attacking options and reassured fans of his readiness to thrive in the Scottish Premiership.
With his combination of experience, hunger, and quality, Iheanacho looks poised to play a pivotal role in Celtic’s title push this season.
