Bayelsa Queens earn CAF Women’s Club of the Year Nomination

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership champions, Bayelsa Queens, have been nominated for the prestigious 2025 CAF Women’s Club of the Year award.

The Yenagoa-based side earned the nod following an impressive domestic and continental campaign.

The Prosperity Girls reclaimed the NWFL Premiership title and finished second at the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers held in Côte d’Ivoire.

Bayelsa Queens narrowly missed out on a return to the CAF Women’s Champions League, losing to ASEC Mimosa on penalties in the final — becoming only the second Nigerian club after Delta Queens (2023) to fall short at the zonal stage.

Despite the setback, their consistent performance throughout the season has earned continental recognition.

The Nigerian champions will contend for the CAF Women’s Club of the Year crown alongside top sides from across Africa, including:

Gaborone United (Botswana)

ASEC Mimosa (Côte d’Ivoire)

TP Mazembe (DR Congo)

15 De Agosto (Angola)

USFAS Bamako (Mali)

AS FAR (Morocco)

Aigles de la Medina (Senegal)

Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa)

JKT Queens (Tanzania)

The winner will be announced during the CAF Awards 2025, celebrating the best of African football achievements over the past year.
