PDP convention forces NPFL to postpone 3SC vs Remo Stars clash

By Dayo Awoniyi

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has been forced to reschedule the highly anticipated Matchday 10 encounter between Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) and Remo Stars FC, after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured the Lekan Salami Stadium for its National Elective Convention this weekend.

Originally set for Sunday, November 16, the match will now be postponed indefinitely as the stadium, 3SC’s home ground, will serve as the venue for the PDP’s two-day convention, scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan.

In a statement, NPFL organizers confirmed that the fixture would be rescheduled and a new date will be announced in due course. The postponement was attributed to “logistical constraints” resulting from the political event.

The PDP convention, which was approved by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) in July, will bring delegates from across the country to elect new national officers. This is a crucial step in the party’s efforts to reposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

On the football front, 3SC currently sit in second place on the NPFL table with 15 points from nine matches, trailing leaders Nasarawa United by four points. Defending champions Remo Stars, however, have had a tough season and are in 17th place, with just 10 points, having won three, drawn one, and lost five of their nine games so far.

With politics taking center stage in Ibadan this weekend, football fans will have to wait a little longer for the highly anticipated South West derby that was set to light up Matchday 10.
