By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Former Nigeria goalkeeper Precious Dede has been appointed as the Women’s Football Development Manager for the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B.

Dede, one of Nigeria’s most decorated female footballers, brings vast experience to the regional governing body. A two-time Africa Women’s Cup of Nations champion, three-time World Cup participant, and Olympic goalkeeper, she enjoyed a remarkable international career spanning over a decade with the Super Falcons.

Her new role will see her oversee strategic growth initiatives, talent development programmes, and grassroots expansion for women’s football across WAFU-B member nations, which include Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Togo, Niger, and Burkina Faso.

Dede’s appointment is widely viewed as a step forward for the region, as WAFU-B continues to strengthen its administrative and developmental structures in women’s football.

The former international has also served in various technical and administrative capacities since retirement—experience expected to advance the zone’s efforts in nurturing future generations of women footballers.
