FRMF to seek CAF, FIFA ruling over Senegal walkout in Africa Cup of Nations final

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has announced it will pursue legal action with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) following the withdrawal of the Senegalese national team from the pitch during the Africa Cup of Nations final against Morocco.

In a statement released after the match, the FRMF said it would formally request that CAF and FIFA rule on the circumstances surrounding Senegal’s decision to leave the field after the referee awarded a penalty to Morocco—a decision the federation said had been deemed correct by all technical experts.

According to the FRMF, the walkout significantly disrupted the normal course of the final and adversely affected the performance of the players, raising serious concerns about sporting fairness and the integrity of the competition’s decisive match.

“The Federation will initiate the necessary procedures with CAF and FIFA to clarify responsibilities and ensure that the applicable regulations are enforced,” the statement said, stressing the need for an authoritative decision on the incident and its consequences.

Beyond the legal steps, the FRMF expressed gratitude to Moroccan supporters for their strong presence and unwavering backing throughout the tournament.

The federation also thanked all stakeholders involved in organizing the competition, describing the event as a major continental success despite the controversy surrounding the final.

CAF and FIFA had not issued an official response at the time of this report.
