Qatar 2022 World Cup: Ex-Super Eagles captain backs Senegal to reach semi-final

Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, former Super Eagles’ captain has thrown his weight behind the Terenga Lions of Senegal to go all the way to semi finals of the ongoing FIFA World Cup.
Senegal were paired in Group A of the Qatar 2022 mundial with host nation Qatar, Netherlands and Ecuador.
The current African champions are in the World Cup without their talisman in the attack, Sadio Mane due to injury he sustained few days to the opening day.
Nevertheless, Okocha believed the Teranga Lions still have all the quality to make a bold statement at the tournament and go farther.
“I’m tipping Senegal to go far in the tournament, they are a good side and are not just African champions for nothing.
“I also think they have a lot to show as they are Africa’s number one nation, irrespective of their group I see them going far,” he said.
Senegal have however started their 2022 World Cup campaign on a disappointing way losing 2-0 to the Netherlands on Monday.
Their best performance at the FIFA World Cup was in 2002 when they reached the quarter finals and they will he hoping to go a step further in this year’s mundial.
