By Wale Mustapha
Head Coach of Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL side, Enyimba FC, Finidi George has heaped praises on his players for their decent performance to record a 2-1 against Nasarawa United on Sunday.
The opening day Group A encounter held at the New Jos Stadium in Plateau State saw the Peoples Elephants maintaining the interesting start to new season after the Akwa United home defeat to new comers Insurance FC.
Elijah Akanni fired the People’s Elephants in front two minutes after the half hour mark before they guaranteed their triumph in the 37th minute through Imoh Obot despite Oche Josiah pulled one back late for the hosts.
Reflecting on their fine start, Coach George lauded his boys’ game management, especially in the closing stages, while believing they can keep up the momentum throughout the season.
“I’m well pleased with the win, especially the manner in which we achieve it, as you know every match is important, this is abridged league,” Finidi told Nigeriafootball.ng.
“Having in mind what happened in Akwa match, that gave us more believe and also make us to be conscious but we did well to get this win, I’m sure it will count well for us as the season progress looking at how difficult its expected to be.”
When asked about his side’s late second half struggle, the former Nigerian international explained their setback.
“It wasn’t the plan to sit back, but it is expected when a team is leading by goals, you will drop the tempo at some points, I guess they went too deep allowed too much pressure but we are happy to go through it,” he said.
Up next for Enyimba is home game against Akwa United in the Matchday Two in Aba while Nasarawa United will be guest to Elkanemi Warriors in Maiduguri.
