Uchenna Kanu pens emotional message to Tigres after Racing Louisville switch
By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
After completing her switch to the United States of America (USA) National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side, Racing Louisville, Nigeria forward Uchenna Kanu has penned a heartwarming message to her former team Tigres.
Kanu on Thursday completed a switch from Mexican Liga MX Femenil side, UANL Tigres to Racing Louisville.
The former Sevilla FC and Linkopings FC forward on her verified Twitter handle on Saturday dropped a series of tweets to recall the great moments at Tigres as she leaves the club.
“I have no words to express what I feel right now knowing how much I am going to miss this team.  I came here with a lot of expectations and demands from different angles,” she wrote on her twitter page.
“One of the reasons I joined this team was to be a part of their tremendous success story.  I have been through ups and downs, and shared many irreplaceable memories with all of you.  In short, I am proud to say that I am part of the success story of TIGRES FEMENIL and I will always remember it.
“To the INCOMPARABLE, my experience with the AMAZONS would not have been complete without you.  You are the most passionate and authentic fans I have ever played for and I will always remember your incredible support on and off the volcano.  Many thanks for everything.
“Thank you @LigaBBVAFemenil for giving me the platform to share all these unforgettable moments with all of Mexico.”
Kanu scored 20 goals in 30 games for Tigres this past year, winning the Liga MX Femenil Apertura championship in November.
Kanu has also scored 10 goals in 12 appearances for Nigeria and Louisville reportedly paid Tigres a transfer fee of at least $150,000, a record number between the two leagues, with more to come if incentives are met.
Kanu is an exciting international talent in Mexico and the U.S., showcasing Liga MX Femenil’s growing prowess in the transfer market.
She joins North Carolina’s Abby Erceg and Carson Pickett as recent pick-ups by Louisville in a quietly ambitious offseason. The forward also increased the number of Super Falcons players in the NWSL to three with Ifeoma Onumonu (Gotham FC) and Michelle Alozie (Houston Dash) already part of the league set up.
