‘We were not clinical enough’- Ogunmodede livid over Remo Stars’ missed chances

By Wale Mustapha
Technical Adviser of Remo Stars, Daniel Ogunmodede has blamed inability of his strikers to convert chances on their 2-0 defeat to Nasarawa United in Nigeria Premier Football League encounter on Monday.
A goal in each half from Joshua John and Emmanuel Ogbole saw Solid Miners recording their second win of the season against Remo Stars at the New Jos Stadium in Jos.
The Sky Blues Stars could have had their nose in front with a glaring chance but fluffed it before the Solid Miners took their chances and Ogunmodede said his boys failed to carry out game plans effectively and paid dearly for it.
“Its not a favorable result for us, its painful because we got an early chance which could have been converted, Ogunmodede told nigeriafootball.ng.
“We had a lot chances in the game and we suffered from not converting them, they had their chances and scored, so its not a good way for us to end the first stanza, but we will use the break to analyse ourselves and hope to come back stronger in the second round.
“The players played to instructions but they were not efficient enough in carrying out the instructions, not with the motivation and enthusiasm needed to win the game.
The defeat means Remo Stars ended the first round as fifth on the log with 14 points, same as Plateau United, who are fourth but by virtue of superior goals difference.
Asked about how his team fared in the first round and second round plans, ‘IjaBall’ as fondly called said Remo’s position is a reflection of their performance just as he assured of an improved side in the second stanza.
“We are consequent of position we are on the table, not extremely good as we wanted, not bad but not where we wanted to be,” he continued.
“We had opportunities to be at minimum, second on the table but unfortunately we were not clinical enough to take our chances, we created a lot of chances both home and away games but were not clinical enough to make them and it counted for where we are now.
“We will go back, assess ourselves and make needed adjustment and I’m confident we will comeback stronger.”
