Sports director of French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice, Florent Ghisolfi has expressed his happiness with the signing of Nigerian International striker Terem Moffi despite interests from other big clubs.
The 23-year-old caught the attention of clubs across Europe with his brilliant performances for Lorient this season after scoring 12 goals in 18 appearances for Les Merlus.
Olympique Marseille, Southampton, Everton, and West Ham all wanted the signature and services of the goal poacher but it was OGC Nice who gets to have the striker during the January transfer.
Ghisolfi believes the transfer is a big statement as he is very happy and very optimistic it will turned out well.
“Moffi believed in our project. He had the feeling that he was going to be happy and successful in Nice. Today he is like a fish in water,” Ghisolfi told Sport.
“I really think we are the right club for Terem. He got the number 9, even if Marseille had promised him too.
“Moffi has confidence in what we are building, it really corresponds to what we are looking for in terms of values. It was long and complicated, but he always showed the conviction that he wanted to go to Nice.
“Sincerely, I ask everyone to be aware of what this means. To have big English clubs and Marseille asking for you and with whom he already had an additional agreement! If he had said ‘ok’, he could have signed the next day, when we did not yet have this agreement and he wouldn’t have been our player. It’s really a big signal sent to OGC Nice.”
The striker, however yet to score since he arrived at Nice after making three appearances. Nice currently sit eighth on Ligue 1 table, but they have been in great form recently, picking five wins and two draws from last seven games.
