Linda Jiwaku targets NWFL Premiership glory with Confluence Queens

Confluence Queens Goalkeeper, Linda Jiwaku is confident that her team can win the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership.
The Lokoja-based side qualified for the Super Six with a game to spare after playing out a goalless draw with Nasarawa Amazons at home.
A 4-0 loss to FC Robo Queens in the last game of the regular season ends the team’s nine-match unbeaten run.
Jiwaku is optimistic that Ogbonda Whyte’s side can win the league which will qualify it to represent Nigeria at the Zonal Qualifiers for the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League.
“I feel so happy and excited because this is my first Super Six,” Jiwaku told NigeriaFootball.ng.
“We want to represent Nigeria at the CAF Women’s Champions League and I know that with unity, love, and determination we can achieve that. We have what it takes to win the league this time around.”
Confluence Queens had a slow start to the campaign with a point from its first three games of the season before starting a long streak of impressive runs, including enjoying a eight-match unbeaten streak.
She added: “Honestly from the beginning of the season, we weren’t doing well. Our first two games were away matches which we lost. After that, we had a home match which we drew making it a point from three games. People wrote us off and tipped us for relegation.
“After we drew at home, we need to buckle up and talk to ourselves that we can do it because with determination we can achieve anything. We stepped out with that mindset and since then we have been unbeaten.”
The team got to the final of the NWFL Premiership Super Four in 2019 where it lost 1-0 to Rivers Angels and will hope to go a step ahead this season when it faces holders, Bayelsa Queens, Delta Queens, Rivers Angels, Edo Queens, and FC Robo Queens in the Super Six.
