Barcelona closing in on Chelsea defender

Spanish giants Barcelona are reportedly keen on signing Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso in the summer.

The Spanish international has repeatedly, in the past, been linked with a return to his home country, but his recent form for the Blues underlines his importance for Thomas Tuchle’sside.

He scored at Old Trafford in midweek as Chelsea settled for a 1-1 draw against Manchester United, and has been a regular ever since Ben Chilwell picked a serious injury late 2021.

The 31-year-old is now reported to be a target for Xavi Hernandez’s men, alongside three other players.

Alonso has a year left on his current contract with the Blues, but recently insisted he is happy at the club.

“Chelsea is my home now. It has become the club of my life. I will always have those memories, and I will always have Chelsea in my mind.” he said.

Adding; “We want to be up there fighting for the title. We will have to be there next year, keep this form away and do better at home. We are still trying to compete 100 per cent this season, it’s important to be fighting every week, be ready for the FA Cup final and finish in third position.”

The Catalans have also been linked with two other Blues; Cezar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen.
