Naija Super 8: Katsina United edge Kano Pillars in fierce North West derby

Katsina United FC defeated Kano Pillars 1-0 in a pulsating encounter to pick a slot from North West Zonal Playoffs at the Naija Super 8 at Eket Township Stadium, Akwa Ibom State, on Sunday.
The clash between the two teams second-tier teams from the Nigeria National League (NNL) ended goalless at the break with nothing to separate the sides from North West Nigeria.
The deadlock was finally broken with just six minutes of regulation time left as Katsina United took the lead through Samson Olasofo.
Olasofo received a pass in the penalty box and slotted past the goalkeeper to give his side the winning goal.
Both teams will see the game as a curtain raiser ahead of the NNL Super 8 which they will jostle for three slots to gain promotion to the top-flight Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Katsina United joined Lobi Stars, Remo Stars, Yobe Desert Stars, and Enyimba in the Naija Super 8 main tournament.
The last slot will be determined at the end of the clash between 2023 Federation Cup champions, Bendel Insurance and 2021/2022 NPFL winners, Rivers United on Sunday.
