Women’s World Cup 2023: ‘Nigeria are here to conquer’ – Onome Ebi
By Saheed Afolabi
Nigeria captain, Onome Ebi revealed that they are ready to conquer the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The 40-year-old will lead the Super Falcons on her record sixth appearance at the global showpiece as they battle Canada, co-host Australia and Ireland in Group B in Australia and New Zealand.
The former Levante Las Planas defender insists they are not in Down Under for Jamboree but give their best, stressing on their quest turn their disappointing outing at the last Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON) to blessings.
“Our ambition, definitely, is to do our best. We approach this World Cup with the mindset of performing to our utmost best and conquering. We had some disappointments at the last Africa Women’s Cup of Nations where we did not put the best performance,” Ebi told CAFOnline.com.
“We have the opportunity at the World Cup where we do not want to disappoint again. I have faith in my team and I like our current state of mind. The team is united and I believe we will be able to do great things at the World Cup.
“We are motivated and we want to hoist Nigeria’s flag to the highest point. The ball is in our court as players and we have to do everything to be on fire physically and mentally for this opportunity.”
The nine-time African champions will be making their ninth appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup and are the only women team from Africa that have been to every World Cup since 1991.
