Juliet Bassey’s brace seals win for Gintra in Women’s Champions League qualifiers

Nigerian forward Juliet Bassey was the herione of the match as Gintra secured a 2-0 win over Welsh side, Cardiff City FC in the 2023/2024 UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) qualifiers on Wednesday.
The former Bayelsa Queens player opened the scoring for the Lithuanian champions in the 20th minute of play.
She doubled the lead for her side in the 49th minute to seal a 2-0 win which ensured the team progress to the next stage of the UWCL Qualifiers.
Bassey saw 91 minutes of action before she was replaced by Tereza Romanovskaja.
She joined Gintra from former Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Champions, Bayelsa Queens after featuring in the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League and winning a bronze medal.
Three Nigerian players started the match for Gintra, with Bassey, Abigail Sunday, and Sunday Juliet stating the game for the same team.
Abigail played full 90 minutes while Sunday Juliet was replaced by Laura Kubiliute in the 94th minute.
Gintra will face Glasgow City of Scotland in the next round of the Women’s Champions qualifiers.
