‘No CAF B license, No bench role’, NPFL tells coaches
By Saheed Afolabi
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has issued a directive in preventing clubs coaches who doesn’t possess the CAF B license to stay off the technical bench.
With few days to the start of the NPFL season, the league management made known its threat in a press release.
The NPFL COO, Davidson Owumi said having competent managers in the league would see an improved performance of clubs.
Owumi made known the league’s body threat by affirming the position of the NPFL that coaches without the CAF B license would be barred from the bench and the purpose is to encourage the coaches to improve their selves.
“One of the areas of the league we seek to improve in the new season is the area of technical performance of our teams through the players and this can only be achieved by having competent Managers on the bench,” Owumi told NPFL media.
“For this season, we will only allow Head Coaches with a minimum qualification of the CAF B Licence to sit on the bench. This may be reviewed upwards next season.
“The idea is to encourage our coaches to improve themselves through higher certifications by participating in reputable courses.”
The 2023/2024 NPFL will start on September 30 across different venues.
Enyimba International won the title last season in a tensed super six in Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.
