Iwobi Ends Goal Drought as Arsenal Thrash Crystal Palace; Iheanacho Benched, Manchester United Edge Burnley

In a thrilling Premier League encounter at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, Arsenal put an end to their five-game winless streak by defeating Crystal Palace 4-1. Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi emerged as the hero of the night, scoring his second league goal of the season and breaking a three-month goal drought. His last goal came in October 2017 during a 2-0 victory against Brighton.
The Gunners started the match on a high note, with Nacho Monreal heading in unmarked from Granit Xhaka’s corner in the sixth minute. Iwobi then doubled Arsenal’s lead just four minutes later, calmly slotting home Monreal’s cutback in a crowded Palace box. The home team continued to dominate, and Laurent Koscielny added a third goal in the 13th minute, tapping in yet another Monreal cutback from a corner. Alexandre Lacazette sealed the victory with a low shot past the Palace keeper, courtesy of a brilliant back-heel pass from Mesut Ozil.
Although Palace managed to pull one back through Luka Milivojevic in the 77th minute, it was too little too late for the visitors. Despite the win, Arsenal remains in sixth place on the league table with 42 points.
Meanwhile, at the King Power Stadium, Wilfred Ndidi made a successful return to Leicester City’s starting lineup as they secured a 2-0 victory against Watford. The Super Eagles midfielder had been rested for the FA Cup replay against Fleetwood Town earlier in the week. Kelechi Iheanacho, another Nigerian talent, was surprisingly left on the bench despite his impressive brace in the cup match. Jamie Vardy opened the scoring for Leicester with a penalty in the 39th minute, while Riyad Mahrez sealed the victory with a goal in the 90th minute. The win propelled Leicester to the seventh position on the table with 34 points.
At Turf Moor, Manchester United continued their unbeaten run with a narrow 1-0 victory against Burnley. Anthony Martial netted the only goal of the match in the 54th minute, capitalizing on a brilliant assist from Romelu Lukaku. With this win, United maintains their second-place position with 53 points, temporarily trailing leaders Manchester City by nine points.
In other Premier League results, Everton, with new signing Theo Walcott making his debut, were held to a 1-1 draw by West Brom at home. West Ham and Bournemouth played out a 1-1 draw, while Stoke City emerged victorious with a 2-0 win over Huddersfield at the Bet365 Stadium.
Overall, it was an eventful day in the Premier League, with Arsenal’s emphatic win, Leicester’s triumphant return, and Manchester United’s continued dominance. Football fans eagerly await the next round of matches, as the battle for the top spots intensifies.
