Nigeria midfielder Deborah Abiodun has signed a new two-year contract with Washington Spirit that will keep her at the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club until 2028.

The agreement includes an option for Washington Spirit and Abiodun to extend the deal by a further year.

The 22-year-old joined the American side from the Pittsburgh Panthers in January 2025. She moved to USL Super League club Dallas Trinity FC on loan the following month.

Washington Spirit recalled Abiodun from that loan spell on 26 August 2026, bringing her back into Adrian Gonzalez’s squad.

Since joining the club, the defensive midfielder has made 21 appearances, scoring once and providing one assist.

Abiodun, who represents Nigeria internationally with the Super Falcons, is currently recovering from an injury sustained while on club duty.

Her new contract secures her future with Washington Spirit as she continues her recovery and remains part of the club’s plans through the 2028 season.
