AFCON 2023: Ahmed Musa charges Super Eagles to make Nigerians proud

Nigeria captain Ahmed Musa has charged his teammates to bring home the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for Nigerians.
The Super Eagles last won the AFCON in 2013, but they are eyeing a fourth title in Cote d’Ivoire later this month and Musa insisted that Nigeria has the quality to win the tournament in Ivory Coast during the team’s dinner party held at the Lagos State Government House, Ikeja.
The three-time champions will kick off its campaign against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, January 14 at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, followed by a showdown against the hosts at the same venue four days later, and conclude its group stage campaign with a match against Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, January 22.
Despite winning just one of their last five games, Musa believes the Super Eagles have the quality to beat the rest of Africa to the trophy.
“We’ve been talking to each other that this is the time for us to go out there and shine,” the Sivasspor star told media.
“With the players in the 25-man squad, you can’t say we cannot win it when you hear the names.
“But in football, anything can happen, but we have the confidence because the target we have is to win the AFCON.
“We need the fans’ support. We are nothing without you, that’s why I want you to believe in us and we promise to make you proud.”
