Afcon 2023: Alhassan Yusuf named as Wilfred Ndidi replacement in Nigeria squad

Head Coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro has handed a late call up to Royal Antwerp midfielder, Yusuf Alhassan to replace injured Wilfred Ndidi in the country’s 2023 African Cup of Nations squad.
In a confirmation post, the Super Eagles media officer confirmed the development, citing injury for Ndidi exclusion.
Ndidi made the final 25 man squad for the showpiece but went on to sustained injury while playing for Leicester City and after several checks, he was confirmed unable to put through it in time for the Ivory Coast party.
Alhassan had made the provisional 40-man team list for the tournament and has now been called to replace Ndidi.
The young midfielder who has being in sensational form of late with his Belgian club will now join the Super Eagles at their training ground in Dubai as the team is expect to have a full camp today.
Super Eagles are paired in Group A with hosts Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea.
They will begin their chase for the fourth AFCON title against Equatorial Guinea in Abidjan on 14th of January.
