AFCON 2023: England based quartet and other Nigeria stars off to Abu Dhabi

Four players plying their trades in the English Premier League (EPL) and second-tier Championship are on their way to Super Eagles camp in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the team camp officially opens on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, for 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) preparations.

The quintet includes Calvin Bassey (Fulham FC), Alex Iwobi (Fulham FC), Ola Aina (Nottingham Forest), and Joe Aribo Ademola (Southampton).

Atalanta player, Ademola Lookman, will join them to team up at the Super Eagles camp for AFCON 2023.

The camp in the Middle Eastern nation will last for a week before the tea, jet out to Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire’s capital for the tournament to face Equatorial Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire, and Guinea Bissau in Group A.

The delegation of team officials departed Abuja for Abu Dhabi with some players on Tuesday.

Players that joined the officials were Ahmed Musa, Kenneth Omeruo, and Olorunleke Ojo, while other players took off from Lagos to join the camp.

With Jose Peseiro and his technical staffs already in Abu Dhabi, the team is expected to observe their first training session on Wednesday.
