Afcon 2023: Jose Peseiro explains Stanley Nwabali’s inclusion in Nigeria squad

Head Coach of Nigeria senior men’s national team, Jose Peseiro has described his reason for including Stanley Nwabali in African Cup of Nations, AFCON squad was purely based on performance.

The Chippa United’s goalkeeper was a surprise inclusion in the 25-man squad of the Super Eagles for the tournament who displaced Israel based Adewale Adeleye in the final selection.

The Portuguese tactician who visited Nwabali in South Africa last month for proper assessment and was impressed with his performance both in training and competitive outings.

“We believe in him (Nwabili) because he showed good quality, good performance, and good capacities. Now I hope he displays the same quality he showed at his club”, Peseiro said in a recent interview with NFFTV.

The 27-year-old who has been capped once with Super Eagles will compete with Francis Uzoho and Olorunleke Ojo for a starting berth in the team.
