AFCON 2023: ‘Nigeria have better team now than 2013 winning set’ – Kenneth Omeruo

Nigeria international Kenneth Omeruo believes the current national team is better with talents than the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winning squad.
The CD Leganes man and captain Ahmed Musa are the only members of the current Super Eagles squad that were part of the 2013 AFCON winning team.
And the 29-year-old with a pool of defensive talent insisted that the present team had more quality than the 2013 set he was part of, despite winning the tournament in South Africa.
The experienced defender feels ill luck cost them the shocking first leg defeat at home to Guinea Bissau in Abuja and is optimistic his side will get a revengeful result in the reverse fixture today.
“Believe me, we have better players now, with better quality than we did when we won the AFCON in 2013,” Omeruo told media.
“And this is why I think it’s something we can definitely do, and my role is to do my best on the pitch and try to advise especially the new ones coming in.
“The coaches, they do a great job in training. They make sure the videos are available for us to watch the opponent and practice.
“So we know when we’re going into the pitch, we are already. I think we were just, like I said, a bit unlucky and, tomorrow by God’s grace we will correct everything that wasn’t done right.”
