AFCON 2023: ‘Stay humble’ – Emmanuel Amuneke tells Victor Osimhen after CAF awards
By Monsurah Olatunji

As we prepare for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), former Super Eagles star, Emmanuel Amuneke has joined several experts to advise Victor Osimhen on his career.
Following his heroics with Napoli, Osimhen was named as the rightful winner of the 2023 African Player of the Year (CAF POTY) in a lavish ceremony in Morocco earlier this month.
The 24-year-old rose to the pinnacle of African football becoming the first African to be named best striker in Serie A’s 125-year history.
He netted 26 goals en route to Napoli’s crowning as Serie A champions for the first time in over 30 years.
Osimhen will lead Nigeria’s quest to end a 10-year wait for the AFCON title and he is expected to light up the tournament.
However, Amuneke who himself won the CAF POTY award in the 1990s has advised the Napoli icon to stay calm and focused despite his meteoric rise in the game ahead of the kickoff for the 2023 AFCON.
“He (Osimhen) just needs to stay calm and focused. The good things will come to him,” Amuneke said in an interview with Tribal Football.
Nigeria is drawn in Group A alongside hits, Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau, and Equatoria Guinea for the tournament scheduled from January 13 to February 11.
