AFCON 2025: Super Eagles silence Desert Foxes to book semi-final spot

Nigeria’s senior men’s national team booked their place in the semi final of 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a 2-0 win over Algeria at Stade de Marrakech, Morocco on Saturday.

Second half goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams lifted the Super Eagles to their fourth straight win of the tournament ending the Fennecs dream.

The first half was highly dominated by Eric Chelle’s sides but their couldn’t convert their chances.

Adams had the best chance to put the Super Eagles ahead with a one-on-one chance but he placed his attempt over the bar.

Two minutes into the second half, Victor Osimhen headed home Bruno Oyemachi’s cross to break the deadlock for the three time African champions.

In the 57th minute, unselfish Osimhen set up Adams who beat the Desert Foxes goalkeeper, Zidane before putting the ball into an empty net.

Attempts by the North Africans to start a comeback were abortive as Nigeria will now face host, Morocco in the semi final on Wednesday, January 14, 2025.
