AFCON Qualifier: Kenneth Omeruo appeals for stable technical crew for Super Eagles

By Monsurah Olatunji

Former Chelsea youth star Kenneth Omeruo has expressed dissatisfaction over how NFF lacks direction on who will be in the dugout for Nigeria’s last qualifier game in September.
According to the veteran defender, not having talented players has never been the problem as Nigeria has abundant of talents but the Federation is not being helpful in tackling issues surrounding the team.
As it stands, there seems to be a halt in negotiations between the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and the Portuguese over a possible contract extension.
Jose Peseiro had been in charge until his contract expired in July, with the NFF yet to decide on his future. With just days left before the game, there is no clarification on the manager to be in charge of the team.
As a result, Omeruo has criticized the NFF for failing to sort out the embarrassing situation, stressing that the players need a stable technical crew to perform like they do at their clubs.
“When it comes to talent, Nigeria have amazing players,” Omeruo said in an interview with Arise TV.
“Even those that are on the bench in the national team go to their club sides and bang in goals week-in-week-out.
“We need to have a stable technical crew. A technical crew will take us to where we are supposed to be and give us exactly [the guidance] that we get in Europe.
“We do not even know who will be the coach in the next game. It is crazy, and it has to be fixed.”
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles will play Sao Tome and Principe at the Godswill Apakbio Stadium in Uyo on September 10 in their last group game for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers to be held in Cote D’Ivoire next year.
