Nigeria midfielder Afeez Aremu has signed a contract extension with German second division side FC St. Pauli.
The 23-year-old has made 48 league appearances for Fabian Hurzeler’s side since sealing his switch from the Norwegian first-division club IK Start Kristiansand to the brown-and-white team in August 2020.
Following the extension, the former Akwa United midfielder also expressed his excitement over the development.
“Hamburg has become our second home for my family and me, so I’m happy to be playing for FC St. Pauli in the years to come,” Aremu told the club website.
I thank the club for their support and trust, which I would like to repay with good performances”, he said.
Reacting to the development, St. Pauli’s director of sport, Andreas Bornemann is delighted the club was able to tie the midfielder to a new deal and avoid seeing him walk away as a free agent in July 2023.
“We’re happy to have reached an early agreement with Afeez to continue our association,” Bornemann continued.
“On arriving in Hamburg he took a while to get used to the new league and the football we want to play, but he has made great strides in his development since then and is an important part of our future plans.”
