African Esports Championships: Casablanca Shines as the New Epicenter of African Esports

The inaugural African Esports Championships concluded in spectacular fashion in Casablanca, captivating thousands of fans at the Mohammed V Sports Complex and online.
This landmark event not only showcased the exceptional skill of African gamers but also highlighted the rapid growth of esports across Africa.
Morocco has solidified its position as a premier esports destination, demonstrating its capability to host major international competitions. The state-of-the-art infrastructure and the enthusiastic local support were a testament to the country’s ability to organize high-profile events.

Egypt emerged as a standout performer, clinching three of the five titles on offer: PUBG Mobile, MLBB, and MLBB Women. The host nation, Morocco, also made a strong showing, securing second place in both PUBG Mobile and MLBB and qualifying for the Riyadh 2024 World Championships. Tunisia and South Africa rounded out the podium in the remaining categories, underscoring the continent’s rich and diverse talent pool.
The success of this first African Esports Championships was bolstered by the unwavering backing of Moroccan officials. Notable attendees included Mr. Chakib Benmoussa, Minister of National Education, Preschool, and Sports; Mr. Mehdi Bensaid, Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication; and Mr. Mohamed Mhidia, Wali of the Casablanca-Settat region, all of whom underscored the growing importance of esports in Morocco.
Held from August 16 to 21 and organized by the African Esports Confederation (ACES) and the International Esports Federation (IESF), in partnership with the Royal Moroccan Federation of Electronic Games (FRMJE), this inaugural championship marks a significant step forward for esports in Africa. The event has set the stage for African teams to showcase their talents on the world stage at the Esports World Championship.
