Al-Ahli close in on Monaco teenager Pape Cabral in €10m deal
Al-Ahli Saudi FC are in advanced negotiations with Monaco over the signing of 19-year-old midfielder Pape Cabral, with an agreement reportedly expected in the coming days.
The French newspaper L’Equipe reports that discussions between the two clubs have become serious as Al-Ahli seek to complete a deal for one of Monaco’s most highly regarded young players. The proposed transfer is understood to be worth about €10m.
Cabral, a France-born midfielder of Senegalese heritage, has emerged through Monaco’s academy and has been steadily building a reputation within the club. His performances and development have placed him among the most promising players connected with Monaco’s youth system.
However, the teenager could now leave the Ligue 1 club for the Roshn Saudi League, with Al-Ahli currently in pole position to secure his signature. The negotiations are described as being at an advanced stage, although a final agreement has yet to be confirmed.
A move to Al-Ahli would represent another significant sale for Monaco in the Gulf region. The club sold Simon Bouabre to Neom for the same €10m fee a year ago, while George Ilenikhena previously joined Al-Ittihad in a deal worth €33m.
Monaco are therefore preparing for another potentially notable departure, this time involving Cabral, who is regarded as one of the club’s emerging talents. The reported agreement would see Al-Ahli add a young midfielder who has attracted increasing attention during his progress through Monaco’s system.
The report comes as clubs in the Roshn Saudi League continue to pursue players from European football. In Cabral’s case, Al-Ahli’s negotiations have progressed far enough for a deal to be expected shortly, with the transfer fee and final terms the remaining issues to be settled.
No official announcement has yet been made by either Monaco or Al-Ahli. However, if the reported €10m agreement is completed, Cabral would become the latest Monaco player to leave the club in a substantial transfer and the latest young prospect to make the move to Saudi Arabia.
