Alan Shearer urges Arsenal to sign Victor Osimhen

By Monsurah Olatunji

Premier League record scorer Alan Shearer has urged Arsenal to make a move for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, suggesting that the forward would be an excellent fit for the North London club.

The ongoing debate over Arsenal’s need for a top-class striker has intensified, especially with Victor Osimhen’s future up in the air.

Currently on loan at Galatasaray, the Nigerian goal-machine has confirmed he will not return to Napoli, with several top clubs—including Manchester United and Arsenal—linked to his signature.

Arsenal are reportedly preparing to trigger Osimhen’s €75m (£61m) release clause, as the Super Eagles star has been in red-hot form, registering 27 goal contributions (22 goals and five assists) across all competitions this season.

Despite interest in other targets, including Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, Shearer believes Osimhen should be Arsenal’s priority.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer said, “Victor Osimhen is there, isn’t he? He would, without a doubt, score goals for them. The problem they’ve got now is that the whole world knows they need a forward.”

However, fellow former England striker Gary Lineker shared a different opinion, suggesting another potential target in Delap, who has impressed at Ipswich.

“If I were them, I’d go for Delap at Ipswich. I know he’s young and not entirely proven, but he’s scored quite a lot of goals in the Premier League this season for a team that’s obviously struggled, having been promoted,” Lineker stated.

Despite differing views, Shearer’s endorsement of Osimhen highlights the striker’s growing reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting talents, with a potential move to Arsenal being one of the most talked-about transfers this summer.
