Alex Iwobi: A Season’s Dedication and a Father’s Guidance

Arsenal’s Nigerian sensation, Alex Iwobi, has unveiled the rigorous preparation that underpinned his standout performances in the pre-season and his commitment to excel in the forthcoming campaign. Speaking to Arsenal Player, the Super Eagles and Arsenal star shed light on the dedicated off-season work and the influence of his father, Chuka Iwobi, in his quest for greatness.

“I did a lot of off-season work,” Iwobi revealed. “I was doing a lot of running, a lot of fitness work. I would also go and play football with a couple of friends who are at different clubs, so I was prepared for the season – I wanted to prove my point from day one.”

The young forward’s determination shone through in Arsenal’s pre-season games, where he made a significant impact by netting goals against illustrious opponents like Bayern Munich in the International Champions Cup and Benfica in the Emirates Cup. However, in the Premier League opener against Leicester, he found himself as an unused substitute in the 4-3 victory.

“[I wanted to impress], especially as towards the end of last season I didn’t play as much as I would have liked,” Iwobi expressed. “Pre-season is a great way to get yourself ready, and I feel sharp, confident, and ready to play games this year. I am happy with my form, but I still have a lot more to prove as it was only pre-season – I just have to carry it on now.”

The 21-year-old emphasized the need to be well-rounded in his role, saying, “In the position I am in, I need to get goals and create chances, so normally after training or when I am at home, I go out on the field with my Dad and just practice my finishing. There’s always areas of my game that I need to work on.”

Iwobi’s commitment to honing his skills and his father’s guidance reflect the young talent’s determination to reach new heights in the forthcoming season, leaving fans eagerly anticipating his contribution on the field.
