Alex Iwobi celebrates Nottingham Forest’s win with Fufu

By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigeria international Alex Iwobi celebrated Fulham’s thrilling 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest in what has been dubbed the “Snapchat Derby.”

The match at Craven Cottage wasn’t just a regular Premier League clash, as it featured friends turned rivals.

Iwobi and his Fulham teammate, Calvin Bassey, faced off against Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina, with the latter’s teammate Taiwo Awoniyi absent due to injury.

Fulham was determined to complete a league double over Forest, who had been in strong form, after narrowly winning the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

Bassey played the role of the hero, scoring his first goal of the season to secure Fulham’s 2-1 victory, marking their first Premier League win at Craven Cottage in 2025.

After the match, Iwobi and Bassey released celebratory videos on Snapchat, where Aina, known for his playful antics after every Forest win, became a lighthearted topic of discussion between the Nigerian players. The game quickly earned the nickname “Snapchat Derby” by the group.

In a display of joy and cultural pride, Iwobi shared a celebratory moment on social media, enjoying a traditional Nigerian dish of fufu and egusi soup. In the video, he expressed gratitude to his mother, singing, “Mommy, God bless you ooo.”
