Alex Iwobi deserves greater Premier League recognition, says Tim Sherwood

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has described Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi as one of the Premier League’s most underrated players after the Nigeria international helped his side beat Hull City 1-0.

Iwobi played a key role in midfield as Fulham controlled much of the match and secured a narrow victory. Sherwood praised the midfielder’s consistency, versatility and ability to contribute effectively in a number of positions.

“Iwobi must be one of the most underrated players in the Premier League,” Sherwood said.

“The amount of games he churns out, different positions where he plays. He was excellent.”

The former England international also highlighted Iwobi’s wider influence on the game, pointing to his ability to provide attacking quality while maintaining the discipline needed to help control the centre of the pitch.

“He was absolutely fantastic,” Sherwood added.

Iwobi’s display underlined his importance to Fulham, where his experience and tactical flexibility have made him a significant member of the squad. He has established himself as a dependable Premier League performer, capable of playing in central midfield, more advanced attacking roles and wider positions when required.

Sherwood’s comments recognise a contribution that extends beyond goals and assists. Iwobi’s work rate, positional intelligence and consistency have also been important aspects of his performances during a demanding Premier League campaign.

The midfielder’s form will be encouraging for the Super Eagles as Nigeria continue their preparations for forthcoming international assignments. Iwobi remains one of the country’s most established players in England, having previously represented Arsenal and Everton before joining Fulham.

His extensive Premier League experience has allowed him to operate in several roles, while his continued reliability has made him a regular contributor at the highest level.

Sherwood believes Iwobi’s performances warrant greater recognition, particularly for the quality and consistency he continues to show for Fulham.
