Alex Iwobi: Fulham midfielder reveals first ritual when he lands in Nigeria

By Monsurah Olatunji
Nigeria international, Alex Iwobi has revealed one of his rituals whenever he landed in the country for a match.
The former Arsenal star disclosed that he never traded his Egusi and Pounded Yam for anything after landing in Nigeria.
Egusi is a traditional Nigerian soup made from ground melon seeds, typically cooked with various vegetables, meat, or fish. It is often served with Pounded Yam, a starchy staple made by pounding boiled yams into a smooth, doughy consistency.
The Fulham midfielder who was born in Nigeria but moved to England as a child, has been a vocal advocate for Nigerian culture and cuisine.
In a recent interview, the 28-year-old expressed his love for the popular West African dish, describing it as a “game changer”.
“Whenever I land in Nigeria, the first thing I do is order for Egusi and Pounded Yam,” he said on a podcast with Kiss Fresh in London.
“Nigerian Egusi is a game changer, it’s just so delicious and comforting. There’s nothing quite like it.”
Iwobi, who has no regrets about choosing Nigeria over England, has cemented his status as a beloved figure among football fans both in Nigeria and across the world.
