Alex Iwobi: Nigeria star reveals reason behind Instagram clearance amid cyberbully

Alex Iwobi has confessed the reason behind his action after facing heavy criticism from fans in the wake of Nigeria’s 2-1 loss to Ivory Coast in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.
Following the negativity, with hurtful comments and vitriolic messages flooding his social media accounts, Iwobi took the drastic step of wiping his Instagram page clean of all posts.
Iwobi played all seven matches as the Super Eagles finished second in the just concluded tournament which was won by hosts Cote d’Ivoire after cancelling William Troost-Ekong’s opener through Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller.
However, a section of the fans felt the Fulham midfielder was the reason as he failed to assist or even score despite being the nephew of the iconic Nigerian footballer, Jay Jay Okocha.
Although, the midfielder found solace in the Honourable Minister of Sports Development following their conversation after the team returned to home soil.
In a candid moment of vulnerability, an emotional Iwobi opened up about his decision to distance himself from social media.
“I’ve taken myself off social media. I’m not aware of what’s going on,” he confessed.
